Purpose and Outcomes
Understanding one's own attitudes and values about diversity is essential to understanding, appreciating, and responding to differences in others. An individual's level of diversity awareness influences choices made in curriculum design as well as classroom strategies to respond to differences (e.g., gender identity, ethnicity, religion, age, socioeconomic level, race).
This tutorial provides some tools that will help you assess your own level of diversity awareness and will also help you incorporate diversity awareness and appreciation into your courses.
Overview
Empathy and Reflection: On this page you find links to questions to ask yourself about your story and how you perceive others. The questions offer you the opportunity to asses how you see others’ humanity.The links at the bottom of the page provide a visual representation of what we show others about ourselves and what we might truly believe. Diversity Awareness Curriculum Plan Coding Criteria: On this page you will find the Diversity Awareness Curriculum Plan Coding Criteria. This tool challenges you to asses the level of diversity in your assignments. The levels of diversity range from appreciation of student learning styles to an understanding of social justice.
Activity: This activity aims to help you to understand, appreciate and respect different belief systems. Quiz: The quiz asks you questions to help you to evaluate your level of diversity awareness.
